About the Fellows
Applications for 2012 have closed.
The State of Israel lies at the center of one of the world’s most passionate contemporary debates. For five weeks in the summer of 2012, a select, international group of outstanding students will gather in Israel for a transformative journey of intensive cultural exploration, text study and mutual discovery. Drawing on the canonical texts of Judaism and the great works of Western civilization, the Fellows will explore the ideas that have informed Zionism from its origins through the present, and engage in a broad discussion regarding Israel and its future.
The program will take place at the Ein Prat Academy for Leadership, located outside Jerusalem, and will be led by Dr. Micah Goodman, one of Israel’s leading thinkers. Fellows will live and study with their Israeli peers, travel through different parts of the country, and meet prominent academics and public figures such as Dore Gold, Professor Moshe Halbertal and Rabbi David Hartman.
The program runs from June 18 to July 24. Air travel and all programmatic costs, including tuition, housing, and meals will be covered, and all Fellows will receive a $2,000 stipend. Applicants must come from countries other than Israel and must be native English speakers or have very strong English skills. In addition, applicants must be between the ages of 20 and 29 by the time the program starts. Applications from Jews and non-Jews are equally welcome. All food will be kosher and all programming will be Shabbat-compatible. The program is a joint initiative of the Tikvah Fund and the Ein Prat Academy for Leadership. Please contact tikvahisraelfellows@tikvahfund.org with questions.
About the Ein Prat Academy
Each year Ein Prat brings together hundreds of Israeli twenty-somethings to live and learn in a pluralistic and intensive framework for months at a time. Located 20 minutes outside of Jerusalem, Ein Prat’s campus is a quiet, desert setting conducive to intellectual reflection and personal growth. The programs: enhance students’ identity as Israelis and Jews; deepen their knowledge, analytical skills and understanding of canonical Jewish and Western texts; forge connections among people from across the religious and political spectrum; and foster leadership skills through a rigorous multifaceted structure of community living.

The Tikvah Fund is a non-profit based in New York. Its mission is to promote serious Jewish thought about the enduring questions of human life and the pressing challenges that confront the Jewish people. Tikvah supports many programs, projects, and individuals— including new university centers and courses, books and journals, summer seminars and scholarships. Tikvah’s work is grounded in these fundamental convictions: that the great ideas, texts, and traditions of Judaism are a special inheritance, with much to teach everyone in search of wisdom about the human condition; and that the fate of the Jewish people greatly depends on the education of intellectual, religious, and political leaders, both in Israel and the Diaspora.
